Robert A. Swinton of Eatontown passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Born to the late Harry and Olive (nee Townsend) Swinton in Rochester, NY, on December 9, 1929. Robert was a lifelong resident of New York until he moved to Eatontown, NJ to be closer to family in 2010. Robert is survived by his children, Christine Swinton of Eatontown and Stephen Swinton of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren Shane Johnson of Ocean Township, Luke Johnson of Cape Coral, Florida; Caroline Krueger (David) of Eatontown; and Jamison Johnson (Martha) of Eatontown; 14 Greatgrandchildren; and his favorite cat Friend-Friend.
Robert served in the United States Navy, Army and National Guard. He earned an Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and a Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star during the Korean War.
An enthusiastic, lifelong baseball fan, Robert’s family remembers that he was always a fan of the “current winning team.”
A memorial service at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
