Mary V. Lopatka, age 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on May 1 after a brief illness. Mary was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she later became employed at Bridgeport Metal Goods, working with her mother. In the early 60’s, Mary followed her Mom and Pop to New Jersey, when Pop was stationed at Fort Monmouth as a Master Sargent in the U.S. Army. Mary was employed at Central Jersey Bank until she became a stay at home mom to care for her family. Though she was living deep in the heart of Yankee territory, Mary never stopped following her beloved Boston Red Sox, who ended their 86 year drought of championships in 2004, allowing Mary to finally see a Boston World Series winner in her lifetime. She was also an enthusiastic horse racing fan, spending many Saturdays at Monmouth Park watching the “ponies”.
Mary was predeceased by her Mom and Pop, Vangeline and John Waterhouse, and her daughter, Roberta. She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Daryll and Jeanne Smith, and her granddaughter Kara Smith, and many friends at church. Mary gave her life to Jesus in 2003 under the ministry of Pastor Dan Brindley, pastor of CrossPoint Church. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 1-2 PM, with a service celebrating her life at 2pm at CrossPoint Church, 462 Squankum Yellowbrook Rd, Farmingdale, NJ 07727. Mom, we love you, and Bucky Dent sends his warmest regards.
